Why is it so important to have current appraisals of your machinery and equipment?
All too often, bankers, attorneys, business appraisers, business brokers and
other intermediaries simply use the "Book Value", as stated on the Balance
Sheet. The Internal Revenue Service, along with most CPA's and accountants
concur that this is inaccurate. These values are typically based on
Depreciation Schedules that are used for tax reporting purposes. The
Balance Sheet of older companies may show that the assets have no value, because
they have been fully depreciated.
If these assets are still in use and are performing the task they are required to
do, then doesn't it make sense that they still have value? Of course!
That's why our firm specializes in providing machinery and equipment appraisals.
It's also why we are often called upon to appraise the machinery and equipment
independently from appraising the business.
