The Sale Process
At Dovetail, we firmly believe that a
successful transaction is dependent upon following a well-defined
and proven process. Our process is very thorough. The
following provides you with a basic overview of our process.
It briefly outlines some of the many steps we'll go through to sell
your business:
Exit
Planning and Preparation We help to educate you on the
various exit strategies available to you, the possible structures
for your particular transaction, and the most advantageous time to
market your company on a confidential basis. Sophisticated
buyers acquire companies only when they recognize value and see the
potential for future growth. Often times a business owner only
gets one opportunity to sell. If our team determines that your
company is not ready for market, we can provide the resources you
need to prepare your company, so that you can meet the goal of
obtaining the best possible price and terms.
The Dovetail Business Enhancement Team helps you, the
business owner, increase the value and growth potential of your
business by improving key areas of your business prior to marketing
the company. Our goal is to sell your company quickly,
confidentially and economically - the first time.
Market
Pricing or Third-Party Valuation We help you determine an
asking price, which is how much our team feels a prospective buyer
may be willing to pay for your business. To do this we conduct
a thorough study of your business, review three to five years of
financials, including corporate tax returns, and thoroughly research
your industry and comparable companies that have sold in the
past. A more powerful tool for you the Seller, is to
obtain an unbiased third-party business valuation and appraisal of
your assets. It helps set the expectations of the Buyer from
the outset.
Marketing
Your Business Once you have agreed to have us represent you
as your Exclusive Seller's Representative, our deal team prepares a
custom tailored, comprehensive marketing plan and marketing
materials, which you will have the opportunity to review and
approve.
